About Charlene Ugent
Charlene Ugent has bred Siamese cats for the past 16 years. Her attraction to cats led her to begin her business in 1996. In that year, Ms. Ugent turned her home into Suyaki Siamese Cattery and began breeding Siamese cats. She now has a long history of raising healthy kittens from her Miami, Florida, home and business.
Suyaki Siamese Cattery is registered with The Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc. (CFA), and has earned the distinction of “Cattery of Excellence.” The CFA is a non-profit organization in the United States that ensures the authenticity of breeds and maintains standards for their propagation. Founded in 1906, the CFA has a national database for people seeking purebred cats. The database can be accessed via the organization's website, which also has helpful information on finding a cat and considerations to be made before purchase.
Charlene Ugent makes a conscious effort to ensure the kittens at her cattery are given the best care possible. The felines are fed with top brands of cat food, both dry and wet. Ms. Ugent also gives the cats sliced turkey from the delicatessen as treats. Their living quarters are monitored often, as Charlene Ugent places importance on the cleanliness of their domicile. Before sale, the kittens at Suyaki Siamese Cattery are given a health inspection and required inoculations by a veterinarian. All new owners receive a shipping carrier, regardless if the cat is shipped or picked up in Miami.
Charlene Ugent has also worked with cats through the Animal Welfare Society of South Florida. While she was an elementary school teacher, Charlene Ugent volunteered in the cat rescue program in Key Biscayne, Florida. Her work with the non-profit organization as well as her personal experience with cats resulted in the establishment of Suyaki Siamese Cattery.
